History of the Schools

  • 1992 – Building work started by Alice & John. Assisted with funding from friends in the UK.
  • 1997 – Rukungiri Modern Primary School opened.
  • 2001 – Sponsorship scheme begins linking sponsors directly with individual children.
  • 2007 – Rukungiri Orphan Partnership gains charity status. A hall and four extra classrooms built. Also a second hand lorry was bought to help with transporting food and building materials.
  • 2008 – Building of the separate Pre-primary ( Nursery) School started. The Primary School achieves the third highest P7 exam results in all of Uganda. A school bus is bought to take children on trips to Kampala and the game parks.
  • 2009 – Pre-primary School opens with two classrooms ( approximately 100 children and 2 teachers per class plus helpers).
  • 2010 – School buys land to grow food to provide affordable meals for pupils at the schools.
  • 2013 – A tractor is purchased for work on the farmland.
  • 2014 – Purchase of a trailer and plough to go with the tractor.
  • 2015 – Nursery Playground Equipment is bought with money raised by running the London Marathon.
  • 2016 – Purchase of a seed drill / planter.
  • 2017 – The headmaster’s house, which was previously rented is being purchased.
  • 2018 – Plans are in place to build new school toilets to replace the old ones which have become unsuitable.
