The Rukungiri Orphan Partnership was set up to assist Alice and John Tumusiime with their vision of helping orphan children in their locality to get an education, which in turn would help them to improve their opportunities for the future. In 1992 they started to build a school whilst friends of theirs in the UK set up a fund to help with this work. A child sponsorship programme was introduced and gradually more and more people came forward to provide support for the orphaned children.
In February 2007 the Partnership became a registered charity and were able to benefit from the additional income generated by the Gift Aid scheme. The charity has received further support from Stuart Townend, the well known Christian singer/songwriter, who kindly agreed to become Patron of the Charity.
There are now several churches and groups in addition to many individuals who sponsor children at the school. They also run various fundraising events in order to raise money for special projects. Many of the children remain in need of sponsorship.
